BIO
Belgian Malinois mix, 12 years, 40 lbs, Medium Collar and Harness. She is progressively losing the ability to walk, but we got her fitted for a wheelchair to help give her quality for as long as we can. After lots of testing, including an MRI and spinal tap, the neurologists can’t figure out exactly what’s going on with.
Viola was found chained in an abandoned house in Mexicali, MX in January 2021 before making her way to rescue in Southern California at Frosted Faces Foundation. My previous foster had been adopted and I found myself immediately drawn to the derpy, toothless, wobbly Malinois who refused to let any of her setbacks get between her and her favorite squeaky tennis ball. I couldn’t not take her home to foster. She is one of the sweetest and most determined dogs I’ve met. When I see Viola, I can't help but think of the quote: "If you get up one more time than you fall, you will make it through." She doesn't let her failing legs get in the way of her doing what she wants. Nothing can stop her. She hasn't always had the best life, but she just keeps moving forward and doesn't look back. She is such a strong and resilient girl and she doesn't let what she went through get in the way of her enjoying life. As long as there's a ball (or two) to be fetched and lots of treats and pets, Viola is a happy girl.
Viola has had a lot of tests done, including an MRI, spinal tap, infectious disease panel, xrays, ultrasound, and bloodwork, but the vets and neurologists can’t determine exactly what is causing her neurological dysfunction and she is unfortunately progressively losing the ability to walk. We got her fitted for a wheelchair so she can still cruise around the yard and continue to chase her tennis ball.
She loves any and all squeaky toys and always has at least one nearby her. She loves food and is a frequent visitor at lots of local restaurants in her wagon. She loves joining my friends and I when we go out for food because that means extra pets and lots of yummy food for her! She loves pets, especially ears scratches, and will lean her head straight up when you find the itchy spot. She is the best work from home assistant and has recently earned herself a promotion on my team from “meeting interrupter” to “senior meeting interrupter” – she’s got to be sure her opinion is heard!
It breaks my heart not knowing what’s going on with her, not being able to do too much to help, and watching her continue to decline, but she is such a special girl and will know nothing but the best for her golden years. I'd be lying if I said these past few months have been easy, but she is, without a doubt, worth it. I love this derpy, toothless, neuro maligator so much.
